Will God really banish you to hell for eternity?

By Reginald Martin

A concept that has always guided me through life is that of being true to myself and true to what I believe. I always found it difficult to believe a certain way and act in another. For instance I believe myself to be a good man and good human being. If I were to act in a manner contrary to my beliefs it would bother me. I would probably feel guilty or fearful for those actions.

The concept of guilt and fear has a whole hierarchy of BS that we have to sift through but it is a good example of how we can keep ourselves in check. No one else has to be around to throttle you when guilt and fear is intertwined into the psyche. Guilt is by no means a positive, but it is a belief system that society uses for control in many areas. It is difficult to release one psyche from a life time bombardment of these two emotions.

As above so below

As I have grown spiritually I have realized that these two emotions of guilt and fear can be detrimental to spiritual growth. These type emotions are energy blocks or resistance to what we truly desire. In the name of staying true to my growing spirituality and not be throttled by guilt and fear I learned the basic principles or laws that underlie the entire universe. Not only do I have to stay true to myself as a physical form, but I have to stay true to my entire being. That means me as a soul and my soul being connected to all of creation. This is the part that many miss. All your lessons impact the development as a soul.

One of the laws of the universe that helps me shift through contradictory thought patterns and beliefs is the Kemetic law of correspondence from the Kybalion. I previously wrote on the seven universal principles or laws of the Kybalion in a two part post. Which were titled “the truth about universal laws and religious dogma.”

The principle of correspondence states “the truth that there is always a correspondence between the laws and phenomena of the various planes of being and life.” In other words what occurs on one plane will have its corresponding occurrence or phenomena on any other plane. This is where the saying as above so below originated. Those of us that have been Christian has heard this law stated countless times in the lords prayer Matthew 6:10 Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. This is a restatement of the law of correspondence, as above so below, by Jesus in his own words. There is a correspondence between all planes of existence.

Can there really be a Hell?

Learning this law and understanding it can be helpful in learning and understanding concepts that you may not be able to physically experience but have the ability to work through them logically and intuitively. Your consciousness can go places you physically can not. This really helped me come to terms with the concept of hell and the fear of burning in a “lake of fire.” It also helped me come to terms with the concept of God as a non-human like being.

Here is what I mean. As a Christian I was taught that in order to be saved I needed to believe that Christ was my way and the only way to salvation. My soul would be saved from burning in hell for eternity! I was also told growing up that God is a loving God. As a teenager I would ask people in “the know”, or least I thought they were in the know, about burning in hell. That concept did not make sense to me. If God “the Father” is loving, why would he send his children to hell for eternity? I mean if God is loving wouldn’t  sending someone to hell for eternity show a lack of compassion for his creation? Surely God as powerful as he is would be more benevolent and compassionate than any human could ever be. Could a parent never forgive their child and sentence them to death? How inhumane would that be? When I put the law of correspondence into this equation of sin equals cursed by God and burn in hell for eternity it does not compute! I don’t fear that type of illogical concept.

The law of correspondence says as above so below. If I considered God to be like a human philosophically I would have to conclude that he would be more compassionate than I could ever be. God would not ever “feel” he needed to harm me. Even if God did want to punish me would it be forever? That would be an illogical application of justice for even the most jaded of humans. The concept of a human like God is illogical. But, for the sake of argument let’s say that God would be more compassionate and benevolent than any one in his creation. Therefore, the human concept of punishment for eternity for sins or contrived transgressions does not work outside of the human condition. It will not correspond outside of this plane.

Where does sin fit in?

The biggest contributions to this type of thought process is the controlling emotions of guilt and fear. Many of us thrive on those two emotions to manipulate and control others. As a matter of fact that is why the concepts have been so strongly ingrained in religious thought. Religion often times looks at being human in ways that are destructive. Concepts like original sin. Being born into sin. Concepts like considering a certain thought is a sin.

That means a person can go to hell for thinking! If that was the case, I would be burning right now! I would be crispy! I would be tasty though.  …ok, ego is now in check. Should I feel guilty?

These concepts only work in the human mind and on this physical plane. As a soul we are energy. In the physical our base component is energy. The universal laws are about the use of energy on every plane. We as a soul and consciousness will exist forever. Energy can never be destroyed or go away it can only change forms. Energy has always existed and will always exist. Learn the laws of the universe and you will understand that everything is energy and know how to attract the positive energy that you want.

The teachings of the masters are based on these universal principles. Learning these principles is as much about developing as a soul as it is a human being. What sense would it make to send you to hell forever when you make a mistake? Why give man free will and then punish him for making a choice God does not like? Is that really free will? again a human like God with the emotional contradictions. What would the lesson be and when would you ever get the chance to correct it if you went to hell for eternity? A punitive God and eternal punishment does not compute on any plane of existence.

Conclusion

There is no such thing as punishment outside of the physical plane. There are only opportunities to learn from your mistakes. If you “wronged” someone in this life then you may have a chance to feel what it was like to be that “wronged” person in another incarnation. you would be put in the same or similar position. Not as a punishment but to develop you as a soul. to understand what the other person felt. You get the opportunity to learn for eternity not burn for eternity. Stay true to yourself your true being.

Some things you will need to feel intuitively. You will KNOW when you come to a truth for you. The law of correspondence will help you with sifting through the concepts that will be truth for you as a soul. You simply have to be brave enough to hold on to your truths and not someone or some groups ideas of truth. Guilt and fear are not part of the equation anywhere else in existence. All-that-is will not send anyone to hell. you are saved whether you accept Jesus as your savior or not. As above, so below.

Are you a brave soul?

This is so amazing and I can so relate. I grew up Christian too and then one day about 4 years ago woke up. It did not happen overnight, it was a journey. It was not easy to shed all those layers that are ingrained in us that revolve around guilt and fear. But I finally did and today live free and have grown in spirituality immensely.

In speaking my truth, I don’t know how so many people still fall for it or should I say clutch to it – but I know I was there once and so in some way understand. But we all wake up – some sooner, some later, but we all will wake up in the end.

Wow I am stumbling this one – it is so good!

Hi Evita,
Thank you for the stumble. I agree with you on the journey. I also had a long one, it didn’t happen overnight. I just always had this feeling that what I was being taught was not right. Now I realize it was my higher self, spirit or whatever you want to name it, guiding me. so many people “fall for it” because the don’t take the time to examine their own beliefs or what they are being taught or it is just a comfortable habit. in my culture it was never a good thing to ask questions about religious doctrine. It was looked on as questioning God. God should be feared not questioned. As I have grown spiritually I know many others have felt the same as myself but have no where to voice it. or they believe they are alone in a wilderness. Its one of the reasons I started writing to let other know that its ok to question and be brave enough to stand up for what you believe. Religion has so many fear and guilt checks that it is difficult for people to break free. I applaud you for finding your way. Just as you my journey is still in full progress. I feel so liberated and empowered! I can never go back to the box of religion. I’m Free!

The weird part about the concept of going to hell, is that being a good person is not enough. One could be a good man, living ethically, and never hurt a fly… but he so happens to be Muslim or Hindu, or maybe has grown in a part of the world where he has never heard of Jesus, never mind believing that he is the Savior… and still burn in hell for eternity!

Paradoxically, the emotions of guilt and fear create our own very hell right here on Earth. On this plane, not on the other ones. Fearing hell, makes us live in hell instantaneously. And it’s all self-created.

Hi Palma,
You make excellent points.

You are so right! That makes no logical sense. And yes, we can create our own personal hell on earth. As the vatican has so eloquently changed its stance and says that heaven and hell are states of mind. After two thousand years the Vatican comes in line with what Christ was teaching.

Death is not the penalty for the original sin !
We all have to die, else where woud we be if no one had ever died?
Up the creek without a paddle!

Reginald Martin Reply:

We all have to die Physically, yes. Eternal damnation is the penalty for any sin according to Christianity. If God will send us to hell because he loves us, what would he do if he got pissed? Asking from a religious point of view.

First off most of you that posted are going to Hell..God does not send us to Hell we send ourselves by not accepting Christ as Savior…Being a good person has nothing to do with Heaven or Hell. The Bible teaches us that it’s by God’s grace we are able to have enternal life in heaven.
None of you have woke up and seen the light,Satan has you fooled and you are walking in darkness.Enjoy your time on planet earth cause you will be suffering when u die

Reginald Martin Reply:

Ahhh yes, Nothing quite like the joy, jubilation and judgement of a good Christian. (lol) Thank goodness the God I experience is Love without conditions or judgement. Hell is your creation, I have no fear of it. When my body dies, my soul and consciousness will move on to the next chapter in my existence. Tim, Thank you for taking the time to comment on my blog.

Mr Martin you have some very good points here, but I still don’t know what to believe. Yes Christianity seems to show quite a number of flaws, but can we really ever know if God is real or not? Yikes, its all so scary :’( I just wanna live a happy life without having to worry about nasty things happening to me when I die!… Anyway… whst I don’t get the most with Christianity is, why is it so necessary to banish us to the most horrific and barbarric punishment and torture for ever and ever and ever hmm? Why? What does the universe gain from that? Were all those dead people so bad?… And if God can do pretty much anything, and he didn’t condem them but they ‘condemed themselves’ then why doesn’t he just yank us out of hell?

Reginald Martin Reply:

Hello Tim,
You say you still don’t know what to believe? I can understand. You ask some very logical questions that really get to the heart of the matter. I asked some of the same questions. Logically I could not come to a conclusion that a loving God would make a Hell. Christianity does have some spiritual truths within it or no one would go for any of it. The lies are the parts that make you fearful, plain and simple. Religion is about control, Spirituality is personal and unique to us all. We will all experience God in our own unique ways. You are asking good questions. Keep at it. Don’t fear and you will arrive at what is right for YOU.

Oh and btw Tim, thats not very nice :’(

7

Oh yah I forgot. The reason why I posted here is because lately I’ve had some nightmares where Jesus turns up and says ‘I don’t like you >_>’ and kicks me into hell! I’ve been thinking maybe its a sign? Or maybe its my subconcious feeling guilty?…. eek! >:(

Reginald Martin Reply:

Hi Tim,
Your dreams are simply communication from you as a soul to you in the physical. Nightmares are a way for you the soul to get the attention of you in the physical. All things in the dream are symbols. to interpret the symbol, look for the function in the physical world. In the above scenario Jesus is symbolic of an authority figure. He is actually a part of your psyche and is telling you that there is something about yourself that you do not like and want to change it. Hell may mean death for you, but to your soul death is not the end. From the perspective of your soul death is simply a transition or transformation to a new form or new world. It is not the end. Do not fear your dreams, they are messages but they are to aid you, not to punish you.

The interpretation I would make on your dream is there is something you want to or need to change about yourself. Something you don’t like. You know is subconsciously and your dream is to bring it to your conscious attention. When you figure out what the dream is telling you it will not occur any more. You will have to allow your intuition to let you know when the answer you figure out is right for you. This is the personal side of spirituality that I spoke of earlier. Your intuition is another way your soul communicates with you. In these instances, you just KNOW without the logical mind getting involved., It’s just a “feeling.”

Good luck on your search.
