The Law of Atrraction vs. Religion
ByWhy do so many of the religious fear the concept of the Law of Attraction? Many of the principles taught in LOA go hand in hand with many concepts that have been taught for thousands of years. There are many examples in the bible of sayings that coincide with the law of attraction. So why is there such uproar in the Christian nation about the law of attraction?
The movie that introduced the concept was”The Secret’. Even though many of the concepts are biblically based many Christians believe the movie minimizes God. From my point of view the religious concept of God has always diminished the capacity and idea of God. In The Secret they make reference to the laws of the universe being a metaphorical genie and it saying, “Your wish is my command”. Religions have an issue with this portrayal, but I can’t understand why. Jesus speaks of the same concept biblically. He just doesn’t use the term genie. The term he was credited with using throughout the gospels is Father.
In the NIV Bible the book of Matthew 7:7 Jesus says, “ask and it will be given to you…”
There are no qualifications to this statement of Jesus whatsoever! As a matter of fact in verse 8, the very next verse, Jesus says for EVERYONE WHO ASKS RECIEVES! (my emphasis) there are no qualifications.
The genie says, your wish is my command! Is this not the same context that Jesus speaks? There is no qualification from the genie and there are not qualifications from Jesus.
Mark 9:23 Everything is possible for him who believes.”
Again, there are no qualifications. Jesus taught that everything is possible. Is there an issue with the name attached to the one that grants the wish? Maybe how it is asked for? Is the language we use really that important? Whether we call it Jehovah, Allah, Yahweh, Universe, Source, Father, or God what’s really most important to understand? What we need to know is, all we have to do is ask and we receive. Is this
minimizing the concept of a divine force that we all have equal access to? I think not. What truly minimizes it is the thought that ALL THAT IS has favor for individuals or groups because of a certain belief system and set of rules and rituals.
The fact of the matter is that often times religion will minimize ALL THAT IS with their concept of God by placing human characteristics on it. An anthropomorphic or human like God can easily be diminished. How can something more than human be like a human? How can God be jealous and angry? Those are human emotions and not very positive ones. When expressing those emotions often times us humans are less than our best. Is the religious concept God no more than an imperfect human? Could it be possible that humanities own child like egocentric point of view is what diminishes ALL THAT IS? I say child like because of a lack of mental development, many children only see the world from their own point of view. Many of the religious only see God from their point of view. When we view God with ego he can be jealous, angry and even vengeful. We create our Gods in our image. The religious God can smite enemies. The religious God is someone that is apart from his creations. He sits outside of everything that exists and manipulates our existence on some arbitrary thought process. A process often times called “God’s will.” This again diminishes ALL THAT IS. Will is a human characteristic and even worse it is arbitrary. ALL THAT IS is not arbitrary. ALL THAT IS is a force or laws that operate the same for everyone. Regardless of who we are or what we do. You can think of this force acting in this reality as a mirror. It reflects back to you your thoughts and desires. This force also permeates every single molecule in creation. It is in everything and everyone. It does not sit outside of you as the God concept does. Jesus was attempting to convey this to his disciples.
John 14:11 believe me when I say that I am in the Father and the Father is in me. He goes on to say in John verse 14:20 “on that day you will realize that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you.”
This was Jesus teaching that we are all a part of ALL THAT IS and it permeates everyone. If Jesus was teaching this, how did Christians take it to the point that they have favor over all others because of their beliefs? In this way religion has been a disservice to mankind. Because of the dogma and doctrines of religion down through the centuries people and nations have been destroyed in the name of an almighty, angry, jealous and vengeful God. How can ALL THAT IS choose one part of its creation to destroy another part of its creation? Can it only be because of the selfish and egocentric views of a child like people? What father or mother would choose one child or another to die for any righteous reason? All THAT IS does not make judgments. Only in the self interest of man can another die at the hands of man. A force simply IS. It exists. To put ALL THAT IS into any human context is the ultimate in minimizing. To believe that IT is not a part of everything and everybody you see is to minimize ALL THAT IS and that part of its creation. To believe that ALL THAT IS can favor only certain people or groups is to minimize the creation and all the laws that govern it. The concept of ALL THAT IS is too big for religion.
I don’t want it to seem that I am attacking Christianity. I speak of it in specific instances because it is how I was taught. But what I have learned since is that all religions teach many of the same concepts. The spiritual concepts are the basis for all religions. Those concepts are what will eventually lift mankind to wonderful levels of service and gratitude. The deeply religious must examine what the dogma and doctrines have spawned for centuries. There has been a destruction and separation of people and nations. We must examine what our beliefs are as individuals. Ultimately your connection to ALL THAT IS is a personal one and should not have to be validated by any dogma or doctrine. You will have to be strong! You will have to be brave enough to stand up for what YOU feel is right for you. If you are religious and have read this far then I know you understand what I am saying on a deep level.
Your spiritual experience is the most relevant experience in the universe. It will be like no other. If I think a Snickers candy bar is the best and you believe that a Milky Way candy bar is best, who’s right? We both are because that’s what’s relevant to us. Even if I do have to question your taste in candy bars.
The secret and movies like it are not intended to minimize ALL THAT IS. The information is to open minds to possibilities. You are powerful beyond belief.
Jesus said to the Pharisees John 10:34 “Is it not written in your law that you are gods?”
You are a god! That is part of what we must understand. The Pharisees wanted to crucify Jesus because he said he was a son of God. The Pharisees were the religious people in the time of Jesus. I believe if Jesus taught the same message today Christians would be the ones to crucify him. They do not want to believe they are gods. It is blasphemy! You are a creator. Why not create a world that recognizes our unity rather than destroying anyone and anything that is perceived different? Every religious disciple believes if everyone saw the world through their eyes it would be a much better place. The problem comes from the intolerant perspective. Look what those intolerant beliefs have done to our world. Religion has been around for centuries and our world has so many issues because of it. Be brave enough to question and investigate. Our world depends on it. You are a soul having a human experience.
Are you a brave soul?

Reginald, this is wonderful information! All That Is, God, is so much greater and infinite than the smaller God mankind has created. God is unconditional love, permeating all things. God flows through all of us, as we are part of the divine creation. When we know God, when we acknowledge the loving, non-judgmental nature of All That Is, we can only feel love for everyone and everything around us. We are God.
Humanity has killed, tortured, and destroyed, in the name of a vengeful God, believing blindly in rules and dogma, fearing their own perceived Creator. As the video says, spirituality is based on freedom. From freedom comes empowerment, and from a place of empowerment, one can only feel love. Never fear.

Well stated Palma. Unfortunately the average person is more moved by their fears than anything else. We need to KNOW that we have everything we need and can have anything we want if we simply believe that it is so. Spirituality is definitely about freedom and that Knowing. Once you have felt that almighty presence and how it works in your life fear subsides and a peacefulness starts to take its place. That does not mean we never feel fear. Developing in this life is a continual process and we should not beat ourselves up for being human. But we can start to transcend our shortcomings and learn our lessons that we came here to lean. Religion is fear based. You learn so many things that you can not do and will be punished for. This life is about experiencing it and not living in a contained area. Life is beautiful when we allow it to be.

Firstly thanks for the follow, it led me to read your blog post. Very well put. I always enjoy reading well thought out construction on the juxtoposition between the Spiritual (all that is)and the religious (the creative rules of man) I do disagree with you on one point though that all religions claim to be the one true faith to the exclusion of all others. In my experience both Buddhist + Hindi faiths have as a principle tennent respect for other faiths, and in no way represent themselves as ‘better than’ indeed Buddha himself is credited with saying believe nothing except what you yourself have experienced. Look forward to reading more on your blog

Mel,
these are the concepts we all can do without.
thank you for stopping by and hope that you will visit often. I will agree with you that ALL religions do not exclude others. I do realize there are exceptions and I should allow for those. When I said all religions teach many of the same concepts, I meant that in a positive sense. The spiritual concepts have a basis in history. I like your definition of religion, “the creative rules of man.”

Dear Reginaldc,
You know, we are on similar wavelengths, I truly think we are link-minded individuals. Its a pleasure to see this on the net. I agree with you about limiting ALL-that-is to religion. I believe most people fear the law of attraction because it makes “YOU” responsible for what’s in your reality. If we never embark our journey on the path of enlightenment, we tend to be intellectually lazy. We want God to be responsible. We don’t want to be responsible. Yet, we want these rules because we don’t trust ourselves.
However when we choose the path of enlightenment, that all changes, we realize “hey, You create all.” If it is in our reality, we created it. This allows for us realize that ALL-that-is, is not outside of us, but in us. All-that-is, is you.
Thanks friend for this great article. I am going to peruse your site for a moment here. Contact you later at mybloglog.

Hi Carmellita,
I agree that we are on similar wavelengths. I believe the message of being co-creators with ALL THAT IS is getting through slowly but surely to many. us and those like us are on the cutting edge.
I also agree that most fear the LOA because it does make YOU accontable for your creations. You are absolutely right that the rules are in place because we don’t trust ourselves. It is so liberating when you make the realization and accept that you have the ability to shape your reality. With the power within you that is ALL THAT IS we all have that ability. Why we have a need to give that power away amazes me. Its as if we don’t want to be responsible.
Thank you for stopping by and hope to see you again. I enjoy what you are doing over at http://www.bluelotusliving.com.
