The Disciples did not understand what Jesus was teaching
ByI have been reading the gospels of the New Testament lately. I had a revelation one day that maybe I was missing something when it came to the bible and the teachings of Jesus. I realized that a lot of what Jesus taught was not quite understood by his followers at the time. Jesus was a wanted man. The Pharisees did not like what he had to say. Mostly because he said he was the son of God. I imagine the Pharisees thought about Jesus then as many of the Christians today would think of a man that started walking around saying he was the son of God. I could just see them now react like Scooby doo when he is puzzled, roh! The new Jesus would not be hanged on the cross he would just be roasted on CNN and the talk shows. I can see Dr. Phil playing the part of Pontus Pilot today and analyzing the new Jesus. Dr. Phil, “Are you crazy?”

The Truth about the Law of Attraction
After much study of the gospels one thing became clear to me. The people that were following Jesus did not always understand what he was teaching. In the new international version bible Matthew 13:10-13 Jesus explained why he spoke in parables. It was to obscure the meaning. His message was of a greater existence that all of humanity shared. There were many instances in the New Testament gospels that the disciples did the equivalent of Gary Coleman on the old TV show Different Strokes, Whatchu talkin’ about Jesus?
See Matthew 15:36, john 16:18, John 3:4-10 Jesus had to question the validity of one of the Pharisees (Nicodemus) that was trying to understand his teachings. Jesus said, “dude! You are one of Israel’s teachers and you don’t understand what I am talking about?” Then he had to break it down to him. Jesus in his figurative way of speaking explained to Nicodemus
John 3:13-15 that no one has ever gone to heaven accept the one that came from heaven, the son of man.
The son of man is a figure of speech meaning one that just like man all men. The son of a man is the offspring or decedent of man. The SON OF MAN as Jesus called himself, means he is flesh just like everyone else. In The NIV bible, 3:15 had some words switched out to impart another meaning. I know because they notate it in the bottom margin. In the switching of words the context was changed from what Jesus taught, to Jesus the man. This is HUGE!
John 3:15 reads, that everyone who believes IN HIM may have eternal life.
The verse originally read that everyone who believes may have eternal life IN HIM. The latter verse has a different connotation when you read the scripture in its context. Putting it at the end says that Jesus was saying that the eternal life would be in God, or a universal consciousness not about the Christ. I wonder who decided to switch that? I understand why. It is a minor switch but has major ramification when the difference is religion as opposed to spirituality. But I digress.
Jesus was misunderstood by the people of his day because he spoke in parables and figuratively. Add to that people translating the original text to suit a certain religious agenda and you can then see how we could so easily be mislead from the greater truths of the teachings of Jesus. That greater truth being a part of what every major religion speaks. WE ARE ALL A PART OF SOMETHING GREATER THAN OURSELVES! Make the teachings about the men and you can separate and weaken nations. Understand it from a universal point of view and it strengthens us all.
Religion separates people; spirituality gives us a chance to recognize our true place in the universe, part of and connected to The ALL. The Disciples of his day did not understand, but all the educated disciples of the world today should be able to decipher figures of speak to ascertain the true meaning of Christ. Unless ignorance is more holy. Do you think that the teachings of Jesus could hint at a much greater existence for humanity?

I agree with your concepts.
