Can we still speak to God personally?

By

When I was young I would sit in church and listen to the sermon that the preacher had on that Sunday. Many of the sermons spoke on how God spoke to the person in the bible. It was always so profound! I remember thinking, why did God stop speaking to people? He seemed to speak to people all the time in the bible days. In Genesis 6:13, Genesis 8:15, Genesis 9:12 God spoke to Noah. In Genesis 17:3, 17:9, 17:15, 17:18 God spoke to Abram (Abraham).

I could write down countless verses that start with “God said” in the bible. God was so vocal in biblical times but in my young mind at the time he was silent. There were no new profound revelations coming forth from anyone. Just the same ole tired ones that the boring preacher spoke on Sunday after Sunday from a bunch of dead people in the bible. Did God stop talking, or did we stop listening? Are there other new and profound revelations that come to us from God? How did the people of the bible times get God to speak to them? These were questions of my young mind that I have now come to terms with. God does still speak to us. We forgot how to listen. There are new revelations coming forth at all times. We simply have to open up and listen.

Thinking outside of the box

My way of thinking is somewhat outside the box. I don’t apologize for it, I think it is my gift. I believe that the people of biblical times accepted certain things then that we are just now coming back around to in modern society. Back in biblical times it was not unusual for anyone to get messages from God. They had an expectation that they could connect to God. How did they connect? The same way that you and I do it today, through prayer and meditation. What we forgot was that we are always connected. That is what a lot of the new age literature is about today. Jesus said God gave him his teachings. Jesus was attempting to teach the people of his day how to reconnect to All-That-Is. The people of his day were so into ritualized religion that they had forgotten how to connect to All-That-Is.

In John 4:19-21 Jesus would tell the Samaritan woman that “a time will come when you will worship the father neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem…”

Jesus in his way was telling the woman that to worship God had nothing to do with the physical location you were in.

In John 14:20 Jesus says “on that day you will realize that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you.”

He was saying that we all are connected to ALL-That-Is. Jesus intended for us to get our information concerning the world beyond the physical by going inside of ourselves to get our get our personal truths. No preacher or teacher can give you your truth. In ancient Kemetic (Egyptian) traditions this was the expectation of their teachings. There was no need for an intermediary between man and God. Any one could talk directly with God and learn their personal truths.

When you believe that you have to get the word of God from anyone other than yourself then you are dependent on that person or system for your beliefs. Ultimately if you do not believe as they do then you are ostracized.

As natural as breathing

Earlier I mentioned being outside the box in my thinking. So here it goes. What ways does God talk to us today? I say he does so in the same exact ways that he did in biblical times, we just call it by different names now and the people are not looked up as deities or saints. I believe each and every human being has these same abilities and that is the ability to “Channel.” Doh! Yes, wehave named it channeling today. The truth it takes no special skills to channel. It is as natural to us as breathing.

Unfortunately most people view channeling as some mystical experience. When in reality it is simply the ability to relax and allow information to flow from your higher self (which is connected to source) to your physical self. You do not have to be in trance or hypnotized uttering some mumbo jumbo, clanging bells on your finger tips or any of the stereotypical non sense that people have subscribed as channeling.

Believe it or not the only difference between you and a medium that channels is that they consciously know what they are doing and you do not. Channeling is simply a flow of information from your higher self. This is what was done in the biblical times. They simply allowed the information to flow. If you are someone that thinks a lot then you channel. Have you ever been talking to a friend, say something profound and then not be able to repeat what you said an hour later? Have you ever just put together a concept and the information just flowed to you without much thought? It could have been while you were at work when working on a project. It could have been while you were consoling a friend or loved one.We have all had moments when we have said things or thought them and wonder how we came up with such a beautiful succinct flowing thought. Yes you channel. It is our human heritage. We are connected to source. We do not need a preacher or teacher to tell us what to think. However, they can guide us.

the thing you will realize about being connected to All-That-is, everyday and every minute of the day you can tune in and have your questions answered. All you have to do is ask.

Jesus taught, Mark 7:7, “ ask and it is given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened for you.”

What is an oracle

His lessons were simple but religion and its constrictions and contradictions have made understanding our true nature difficult. Religion has actually banned particular forms of connecting to source that were typical in the bible like consulting of oracles. Even the word oracle has a negative connotation in most Judeo-Christian circles.

An Oracle is defined as a person who serves as a medium through which a spiritual agency gives counsel; Objects casted as lots to serve the medium for communicating with spiritual agencies for guidance, or the shrine where such counsel is given.

Today things like tarot cards, runes and I’Ching have a negative connotation attached to them. It is hypocritical that the church would set this precedence when it was a biblical tradition to use these type things. Tarot cards are a relatively modern form of oracles, but using bones, leaves, rocks and many other forms of divination go back thousands of years before Christianity. Why would the church not want you to be able to speak directly with God if consulting an oracle would be an aid?

Biblical traditions that are considered negative today

In the bible lots were cast in these scriptures Lev 16:8 says, He is to cast lots for the two goats-one for the lord and the other for the scapegoat. The land of Canaan was divided by lots Num 26:55 Be sure that the land is distributed by lots. Even Jesus himself could not escape this tradition, Matthew 27:35 when they crucified him they divided up his clothes casting lots. What was used it does not say, but lots were cast in many more instances in the bible. It was a tradition.

All-that-is is still in the business of conversing directly with you. It is not a right of the religious. It is a right of every living human being. Tarot cards and runes, I’Ching can be an aid in connecting to All-that-is. Understand there are no accidents, coincidence or luck when you ask the question you will get an answer. Using an oracle is a simple way to get your answers from the divine.

Does God no longer talk to modern man or do we just not listen? Do we really need someone to tell us how we should connect to God? Are you superstitious about using oracles such as tarot cards, runes and I’Ching? If so why do you think that is?

wonderful article Reginald. We both seem to sat in sermons with that same question in mind. You have no idea how many times I had to go sit on the “church” steps for asking the “wrong” questions in sunday school. I asked the question in sunday school “If God speaks to everyone why do we need a bible and have to go to church?” And I was sent outside to the church steps.

Now, that I have an understanding of what it is when God speaks to “us.” I can hear quite clearly divine words of wisdom. And I think we should “share” them as often as possible to support each other in our spiritual growth, not use it as a way to Religioutize (okay thats not a word but its the best I can think of) someone.

    Hi Carmelita,
You said, “I asked the question in sunday school “If God speaks to everyone why do we need a bible and have to go to church?” And I was sent outside to the church steps.”
You are lucky they did not send the church police after you for asking that one. I would ask the questions and get told, “God does not want us to know that’” or something to that effect. I really think we make spirituality too difficult. Our natural state is being connected to source. We do the unnatural by not listening and therefore disconnecting in a way. We ofcourse are never truly disconnected, but it seems that way when we don’t pay attention. I am now adding Religioutize to wikipedia. :) So it is officially a word in the English language.

  2. Hi Reginald – You gave a beautiful and accurate definition of ‘channeling’. A flow of information from your higher self. As simple as that, and the channel of communication is always open, anytime we are ready for it, and willing to listen.

I agree with your view of oracles and divination systems. They all harness the power of synchronicity, which is another way for God/Source to speak to us.

Btw, as a child I wondered about the exact same thing, of why we wouldn’t hear the clear voice of God, as they did in the Bible… but I never had a chance to ask and be sent out to the church steps, because my parents refused to send me to Sunday school… :-)

Consider yourself lucky. religion in my family involved a certain amount of trauma.

  3. LOL – Do you mean that I didn’t trade sleeping in on Sunday for the certainty of going straight to Hell? :-)

MECCA IN BIBLE: psalms 84 5 Blessed are those whose strength is in you,
whose hearts are set on pilgrimage.
6 As they pass through the Valley of Baka,
    they make it a place of springs;
the autumn rains also cover it with pools.[d]
7 They go from strength to strength,
till each appears before God in Zion
In Hebrew “Baka” means “ valley of weeping”
Surah 3:19 in the Quran states : Verily, the first House (of worship) appointed for mankind was that at Bakkah (Makkah), full of blessing, and a guidance for Al-’Alamin

The rain and pool mentioned in the psalms is actually the well of zamzam in Mekka the place Muslims go for pilgrimage
The Zamzam well has never stopped flowing since the time of Abraham which that itself is a miracle and it heals people. Zam zam water still remains, and is in abundant use of many pilgrims at Mecca.
Bakka means “the valley of weeping” and it is a well known fact that Muslims cry on their way home from pilgrimage.
If you still deny find me a place on Earth called “Bakkah” where people make pilgrimages, and there is a pool or a well. And the city must have a well known place of worship. Jesus even says n John 4:19-21 Jesus would tell the Samaritan woman that “a time will come when you will worship the father neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem…”
